The borders, guarded by immortals, never breached—

நீரின் வந்த நிமிர் பரிப் புரவியும்,

tall-headed swift horses sail in across the seas,

காலின் வந்த கருங்கறி மூடையும்,

wagons roll in from inland with sacks of black pepper,

வடமலைப் பிறந்த மணியும் பொன்னும்,

from northern hills, gems and gold arrive,

குடமலைப் பிறந்த ஆரமும் அகிலும்,

sandalwood and akilwood flow from western ranges,

தென்கடல் முத்தும் குணகடல் துகிரும்,

pearls from the southern sea, coral from the deep,

கங்கை வாரியும் காவிரிப் பயனும்,

the gifts of Ganga and the bounty of Kāviri,

ஈழத்து உணவும் காழகத்து ஆக்கமும்,

food from Eelam and wares from Kedah’s craft,

அரியவும் பெரியவும் நெரிய ஈண்டி,

rare things and vast goods crowd close together,

வளந்தலை மயங்கிய நனந்தலை மறுகின்

piling high on wealthy streets that sway with abundance

உழுதுண்டு வாழ்வாரே வாழ்வார்மற் றெல்லாம்

Only those who work the land truly live; 

தொழுதுண்டு பின்செல் பவர்.

the others merely follow and depend on them for food
