ஊரான் ஊரான் தோட்டத்திலே - அவன்

In every village, in every garden

ஒருவன் போட்டது வெள்ளரிக்கா!

he, someone planted cucumber – his own crop! 

காசுக்கு ரெண்டு, விக்கச்சொல்லி அவன்

“For two coins,”  he fixed the price, 

காகிதம் போட்டாண்டி வெள்ளக்காரன்!

and stamped it on paper,  that white man did! 

வெள்ளக்காரன் பணம், சின்னப் பணம்

The white man’s money, just tiny coins, 

வேடிக்கை கேட்டுதாம் வெள்ளிப்பணம்.

but all dressed up and called silver.

வெள்ளிப் பணத்துக்கு ஆசை வெச்சு - அவ

Tempted by that shiny silver – she,

வேஷங்க கொறைச்சாளாம், முத்து வீராயி.
